This winter has produced a lot of wet weather and thus has limited our bush hunting forays. However it can’t rain forever!
We snuck into the bush just after full daylight and made our way carefully up a ridge looking for some elevation before commencing our days hunt. Close to our final destination Wilson started winding straight up ahead of us. Mmmmm maybe an early day I mused.
We eased up another 20meters or so stopping often to scan the ground ahead, suddenly a hind made herself known by trotting down toward us and then stopping but still looking our way. The vixen came to the shoulder fluently and the crosshairs captured the animal.
It felt good to be back with the Vixen, a bit like turning the clock back 40 or so years, when we were both in our heydays. She unlike me has got better with the years, her action is still super slick, dressed in a Mcmillan stock, she still could easily be the bell of the ball, despite her scars and gouges. She wears a Vx3 1-5 x 20 now so her eyes are better than she had in the day but still better than mine, but her barrel is the same old tube and I liken it to my legs. Still going but feeling the pressure.
